Tiger Roll Trampoline Academy

    What is a Tiger Roll?

Tiger Roll is the Hungarian translation of what we know of in gymnastics to be a 'Dive Roll' and its counter part on the trampoline as the formerly named skill 'Crash Dive' aka 3/4 Straight Front Somersault [3/4 FSS (S)].

    Who is Tiger Roll?

Anna started coaching Alex on trampoline in 2011. Very quickly Alex showed great ability with the 3/4 FSS and associated skills such as: Ball Out Barani and the more difficult 1 & 3/4 FSS (P).  As Alex is Hungarian the name 'Tiger Roll' was used very early on in the coaching process and has since stuck.  Alex has since become Anna's top bouncer as well as being a highly skilled gymnastics coach.

    Why Tiger Roll?

The name Tiger Roll has two different personal connections (one each to either coach Anna & Alex).  From our background with Head Trampoline Coach, Anna had previously written an article regarding naming of skills within her other teaching subject of "yoga for children".  In 2008 Anna wrote the following for a Yoga Teacher Training Development Course:

    "The Naming of the Pose

Names of any activity/exercise tend to be traditional and/or a western translation. However, sometimes we find that a name can unconsciously instil negativity in the mind.  This is particularly import in classes for children to work with positive names.  Aiming to keep continuity we can develop use and find names that can provide a functional purpose, story and supportive concept.  How we can develop this in its simplest method is by use of a base pose e.g. Triangle & Pyramid, Warrior & Peaceful Warrior, Monkey & the Three Wise Monkeys these are a few from a-m.yoga."

Coach Anna has seen significant positive learning and development when teaching the 3/4 FSS (S) by using the name 'Tiger Roll' in comparison to its technical name and far and above its former name.
